June Newsletter

Infant One

With warm weather finally here the infants have a lot to look forward to. We will be swimming, taking lots of walks, enjoying the swing at Froggy park etc. We will be learning about vehicles all month. This will include reading books, playing with vehicles, artwork etc. This will involve sensory, literacy, gross motor and fine motor skills.

We will welcome two new friends to our room. We look forward to getting to know Ronin and Brendan and their families. We also say goodbye to Tommy this month. We wish him and his family the best on their new journey at their new home. We will miss you.

Please bring in weather appropriate extra clothes. Also we ask everyone to bring in swim diapers, bathing suits, hats, and a towel.

We sent out a letter asking for parents to bring in 5 pictures of your family for our all about me book. If you have not brought them in yet, please do so. We would like to incorporate our families into our everyday routines.

Infant Two

Welcome Summer!! We 're all looking forward to taking walks and playing in the pool. We were sorry to see Margot leave us, however we have a new Margaux starting on June 6th. We are planning on working on our father’s day art project in the coming week. We want to welcome Ellie to our class. Levi will be moving on to the younger toddler room soon, we will miss him. Hope everyone has a great summer.

Younger Toddlers

The sun is shining, weather has been nice and the kids are enjoying being outside. Please make sure to have a pair of tennis shoes for outside play and walks. We will be busy this summer with activities and water play. We will start our water play this month so please bring a swimming suit and a towel for your child. Our classroom theme will be camping and we are planning a lot of activities such as campfire, nature collage, rock painting etc… We also are planning a teddy bear picnic on July 17th. Please continue to make sure your child has weather appropriate clothing. Be sure to have extra clothes in their drawer as well.

Older Toddlers

We have a lot of fun things panned this June. First we want to say congrats to Lily, Malia, Josh, Dalia, Oliver and Marquae as they join our preschool room Then we wish to welcome Lily, Adriana, McKenzie, will and Juliet. Our curriculum for June will be focused on community workers. We will discuss all the important people who make our town awesome and the jobs going on around us every day. Luckily the beautiful weather will give us
the opportunity to see some workers and transportation vehicles nearby. This will help us explore what some community helpers do. We will make our own fireman and police hats as well as craft up some interactive library fun. We will read Who’s Hat Is This? by Kats Cooper, Bernstein Bears; Jobs Around Town and much more. Speaking of awesome helpers, Happy Father's Day. We have a special treat in store for that week to help
or toddlers discuss the upcoming holiday. Also, it’s getting warmer out so please be sure to have weather appropriate clothes in the drawers. A swim suit as well as a towel and swim diaper is required for pool time. Remember to sign your child(ren) in and out daily. Thank you

Preschool

It is June in Preschool and it is finally starting to warm up. We are really enjoying playing outside as often as possible. Please make sure your child has weather appropriate clothing and at least two completer changes of clothing at the center.

Last month we worked on the letters Y and Z and reviewed the rest of the letters. Please feel free to send in items related to our weekly topic. Please join us in wishing the following friends a very happy birthday: Lily Jo and Joshua.

This month, we will be focusing on the following topics: June 6-10 Teddy Bears, June 13-17  Father’s Day, June 20-24 Friendship, and June 27-July 1 When Freedom Ring/Fourth of July.

We will be using various materials to explore the topics every day in the classroom and on our outdoor excursions.

Please check your child's folder daily for important information and art projects. Show n Tell is every Friday– PLEASE only bring toys Fridays. Pre K

We are enjoying this wonderful weather. We have been going on walks, to the park, and the grassy field. Please start bringing in swim suits/ extra clothes so we can also do water play. We also will be starting some of our field trips. The zoo for our younger friends and Safety Town for the older ones. Along with our outdoor fun, we have been looking at shapes, transportation and ocean animals.

We will still be working on our letters and numbers. We will be trying to use the outdoors to help work on those skills in a fun and more hands on way.

Lastly, we have a baby nursery as our theme in dramatic play. If you have any items that you would like to donate or let us borrow, please let me know. Thanks.

Office

It is hard to believe June has arrived!! We are busy preparing for our school age “Summer Camp”. We still have a few places left, so let us know if you know of anyone looking for a fun and safe place for their school age children. Starting Monday June 13th some of the children will be attending Safety Town for the week. Our 4- year olds will be going to the zoo on Monday June, 13th!! If you are involved in any of these two activities and have not turned in a permission slip, and payment (Safety Town) , please do so as soon as possible before Monday.

It was great to see so many of our LCCC family at the Family Picnic. What a great way to kick off Memorial Day weekend. The food was wonderful and the Flower Clown was phenomenal. Thank you all for being a part of our amazing community.

Hopefully you are aware, we have had changes to our Board of Directors this year. Our Board is dedicated to supporting the staff, operations and the center as a whole. We look forward to serving all of the centers families especially the children.

We would like to invite you to be an active member of the center and its mission of serving not just the children within its walls, but the community as a whole. Our community has many skills and ideas that can make the center even better.

The board is forming committees. These committees will focus on areas of need and potential growth. These committees are open to any of our community parents and teachers alike. The current Committees are as follows; Fundraising, Facilities, Marketing and Social Media, and Program.

The Fund Raising committee’s focus is to aid in fundraisers and come up with fresh ideas for future opportunities. They will be responsible for everything involved with raising funds for the center.

Our Facilities committee will be focused on the building and grounds; organizing events to maintain and improve the center, as well as making recommendations on updates and upgrades.

Marketing and Social Media will be responsible for generating a buzz about LCCC. From Facebook to our website to press releases and everything else that can get us out there and noticed.

The Program committee will be focused on the curriculum. Looking for ways to empower our teachers and grow their skills in nurturing our kids. A top priority will be the Accreditation processes.

Please consider joining us in guiding Lakewood Community Child Care into a strong, healthy future.

April Newsletter

Infant One

We hope everyone had a wonderful Easter.  We are so excited that it is finally spring.  We are looking forward to warmer temps so we can take walks.  There are a few changes to our room this month.  We will say goodbye to Lilly as she starts her new journey in the toddler room.  We wish her well.  Also we will welcome a new friend to our room.  We look forward to getting to know them. and their family.

This month’s theme is all about animals.  We will read books about animals and the sounds they make.  Also animal related crafts will be done.  Please be sure to make sure your child has a jacket and a hot so we can enjoy the nice weather days.

Infant Two

Happy spring.  All of the babies are doing very well.  They love spending time with their friends at school.  They are all growing so fast and learning so much.  We are looking forward to spending more time outside.  Be sure your child has a hat for those windy days and a light jacket.

Younger Toddlers

Hello and Happy Spring!!!

We can feel spring.  Please continue to make sure your child has weather appropriate clothing.  Be sure to have extra clothes in their drawer.

We are always doing fun projects and we are looking forward to a great spring filled with nature projects, creative expression and so much more.

We are going to make umbrellas and kites as art projects.  We also will talk about rain and wind and the Spring season.

We are going to have an open house on April 7th for the Week of the Young Child, so please sign up in the room (and how many people attending).  We look forward to seeing you there.

Older Toddlers

Happy Spring!  We hope everyone enjoyed their St. Patty’s Day and the Easter holiday.  The children really loved our visit from the Leprechaun and the Easter Egg Hunt.  To kickoff April we will be celebrating the week of the young child.  That week we will have fun days as follows: Monday is bring a “friend” to school day (soft, stuffed toy),  Tuesday is share a favorite book day, Wednesday is wacky-crazy hair and clothes day ( have fun and get creative with it, Thursday is wear your favorite color day and Friday is pajama day.  We are all so very excited to see how everyone joins in the fun all week.  During April we will be exploring into the world of our favorite wild animals.  At the the end of the month we will be recognizing Earth Day and Arbor Day.  We will be discussing how the world around us is important and different things we can do to take good care of it.  We will really “dig” into this topic and plant some seeds and go exploring outside as much as possible.  Thank you for all your support and all you do to help the children stay awesome.  Don’t forget to check out all the artwork and activities on your way in and out of the room.  Take home anything in your child’s folder, please.

Preschool

It’s April in preschool and we are so happy that spring is here.  We are really enjoying getting to go outside to play.  Please be sure that our child has a complete change of weather appropriate clothing for when we go outside.   Please be sure that your child also has two complete changes of clothing (shirt, pants, underwear, socks and extra shoes, if possible)

Last month, we worked on the letters Q,R,S and T.  Please expect to continue to see weekly homework to help reinforce the concepts we are working on.  Please feel free to send in items related to the weekly letter and /of our current topic.

Pre K

We will be starting our last Letter People Unit, “Nature All Around Us.  This month we will talk about seeds and plants, Light & Dark, Sounds ,and water.  The letters we will focus one are V (Vegetable. Vest)., L (Longest Laugh), U (Unusual umbrella), and J (Jingle Jacket).

We are going to be starting a new take home project.  Every weekend someone will get the opportunity to take Harvey ( a teddy bear) home.  He will also come with some books and  a journal.  The journal will be so you and your child can write or draw what you did together with Harvey.  I can’t wait to start this project.

In science we are going to explore into our theme “Nature All Around Us”  The children will get to plant their own seeds.  We will also have fun doing some sensory activities with dirt and water.

We are currently doing a bakery theme in dramatic play and have already started talking about future options.

We will continue working on letter/number cards.  We also have been finding similarities between different things.  This can throw in some added shape, color and pattern recognition.

Office

Welcome to April.  This month is the Week of the Young Child( April 4-8).  There will be a special snack on Monday (April 4th), we will be ordering pizza for the children on Wednesday (April 6th) on Thursday is the open house (5:30-7:00) with the performances from the children, and rounding out the week on Friday (April 8th) is pajama day.  We will also be having a special video and story time with Miss Pam or Miss Ramona.  So we plan accordingly , please sign up in your child’s classroom for the open house along with how many will attend with you for our open house.

We are taking registration for our Summer Camp.  Summer camp is held at St. Luke’s (for Lincoln) and it is for children that have finished kindergarten through 5th grade.  We have applications and the agenda in the office.

This time we are going to try something different for picture day.  We will be having picture day on April 25th and 26th.  April 25th will be the Infants and the Younger Toddlers along with sibling pictures.  April 26th will be Older Toddlers, Preschool and PreK.

Happy New Year!

We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. We start the new year by welcoming Seamus and Franklin to our room. We will be exploring all things winter this month, we plan on bringing snow inside to put in our sensory table. We will also do winter art projects such as snowmen, and read books about winter. Hope everyone is keeping warm. Please check your child’s bin for appropriate extra clothes.

 
Infant Two

Happy New Year to all of our families here at LCCC. This month we will have two new friends join our class. Please help us welcome Connor and Margot and their families to our center. Everyone is doing great. The babies continue to grow and learn through play and interactions with their friends and caregivers. Frankie and Levi are so determined to walk. They continue to practice every day. Everett and Paul are enjoying new foods, and Rowan loves to talk!

Younger Toddler

Happy New Year to all! Hoping you all had a safe and joyous holiday. Winter has arrived. Reminder to dress for outside daily walks. This month we are going to talk about winter and cold weather. We will make snowman and snowflakes. We also are going to learn about arctic animals. We’ll make polar bears and penguins as an art project. Younger toddlers are doing well on using utensils. We also are learning how to share toys and how to take turns. They love to sing and play instruments their favorite song is ” Hello how are you”

 

Older Toddler

Hello parents,

The New Year has approached! For the month of January our theme will be winter. We will be talking about animals that are around during the winter season such as penguins and polar bears. We will be making our own penguins and polar bears using cotton balls and glue. We will also be experimenting with real snow! In the classroom we will be reading books about winter such as Clifford and the Snowflake book, which talks about the journey of a snowflake.

Winter is one of my favorite seasons of the year, so we are going to have a great snow filled month! We will also continue to work on counting and practice spelling our names and learning to work on tracing the letters in our names.

Preschool

It’s already January and the preschoolers can’t believe another year has passed. We are anxiously awaiting to get to play in the snow. Please be sure that your child has a winter coat, hat, mittens, scarf and boots available everyday so that we can enjoy our time outside. Please be sure that your child has an extra complete set of weather appropriate clothes available in case of accidents.

This month we will renew our focus on letters and numbers, so expect to see homework coming home to help reinforce the concepts we are working on. We will be focusing on the following topics this month: 1. (Jan 4-8) winter wonderland, letter I and number 9. 2. (Jan11-15) Winter Animals, letter J, number 10. 3. (Jan 18-22) Martin Luther King Jr. Day, letter K, number 11. 4. (Jan 25-29) Space, letter L, number 12.

We will be using various materials to explore the letters and numbers every day in the classroom and on our walks. We will have activities related to each topic as well. Please feel free to send in items that pertain to the topic to share with the class.

Pre K

We will be easing back into our normal routine with a quick look at “Winter”. All of the children are very ready for it to snow.

In the second week, we will start our “Everyone Has Needs” unit. We will meet Mr. C (colossal cab) Ms Y (yodeling yawn) and Ms E (exercise energy). Our unit themes will be everyone needs food, rest, and exercise. We will continue working on letter sounds , and patterning. We will be changing our sensory bin to go with a winter theme and dramatic play will turn into a pet store. Currently we are having a birthday party theme in dramatic play and we have our New Year’s theme. The kids loved trying to figure what was in filled balloons. We used beans, beads, legos, sand, etc. It was hands on fun!!!

 

Office

Thank you for a successful 2015! We had a great food drive. Thank you, for all who participated. The classrooms were so appreciative of all the classroom gifts purchased from the giving tree. We are so excited to be starting a New Year!! With the New Year comes new and exciting ideas along with a new commitment to your child’s development and well being. We are so blessed to have each of you children as a part of our center! Please note, each classroom will check with the office, daily, before venturing outside to be sure that the weather permissible to do so. We do not venture outside when the wind chill is below 32 degrees.

November Newsletter

Infant One
We hope everyone had a safe and happy Halloween.
This month our focus is on different textures. We will be exploring textures such as dry pasta, leaves, pinecones, paint bags etc. We also made a tug box that has different materials that the infants can touch and pull on. We do this so that the infants can work on their fine motor skill and their sense of touch.

For art we will be working on Turkeys for Thanksgiving. We will celebrate Milan and Evelyn’s 1st birthdays this month. Happy Birthday to you both!

Please be sure to check your child’s bin to make sure they have the proper extra clothes.

Infant Two
The babies are busy learning and growing. Frankie and Levi love their time in the gym, climbing on the mats and walking with the push toys. Frankie will be celebrating her 1st birthday. How exciting! Everett and Paul are enjoying their tummy time, rolling around and giggling at each other. They have both been practicing with new sounds, they love to hear themselves talk. The older babies love to paint and play in the leaves and play in squishy colorful spaghetti noodles too.

We will be welcoming Rowen to our classroom. We are very excited for her to join us. Rown has an older sister, Emery in the Preschool Room

Younger Toddlers
Cold weather is fast approaching, time to dig out gloves, hats and all that fun stuff.

Please check your child’s extra clothes to make sure they are size and season appropriate and that there are at least two sets.

We are very excited that holidays are coming. We have so many exciting activities and projects we will be doing. The first 2 weeks will talk about acorns and squirrels and where they live and what they like to eat. We will learn about the Mayflower and the Pilgrims. We will learn where they come from and why we are celebrating Thanksgiving.

Please remember to check your child’s folder daily for important notes and art work. Have a great Thanksgiving.

Older Toddlers
It’s hard to believe that November is already here. so far we have been blessed with amazing weather, but soon it will be cooling off so please be sure your child is dressed to go outside to play. The theme we will be working on is fall.

In the classroom we will be doing fall activities as well as outdoor exploring. We will be talking about the fall season. We celebrate the fall harvest by making our own orchard full of apple trees, pumpkins and other squash as well as corn and of course scare crows to keep those pesky animals out. We have some awesome books lined up to help our children understand the growth of an apple from seed to fruit, and books for looking at all the diversity in the changing environment around us especially the leaves. Our focus will be on counting numbers one to ten and colors, but we will still be practicing shape recognition as well as our alphabet. The end of the month we will switch focus onto Thanksgiving and talk about all the special things in our lives we are thankful for. We hope that you will join us for our Thanksgiving party in our room that week, there will be a sign up sheet in the room closer to the date. We hope you enjoy all our artwork and fun songs were learning this month and we thank you for working with us as a team to help your child blossom into a brilliant young mind.

Preschool
November is the month for being thankful. We are so thankful for so much in preschool- our friends, our families, fun activities, learning and growing…the list goes on and on. We are really enjoying looking at all the changes fall is bringing- especially the beautiful fall leaves.

Last month, we reviewed our shapes and started working on our letters and numbers. Please expect to continue to see homework coming home to help reinforce the concepts we are working on.

We will use various materials to explore these numbers and letters everyday in the classroom and on our walks.

Pre K
This month, we are learning about “Getting along with others”. The focus will be on sharing and kindness. We will also be talking about Fall and Thanksgiving.

We will be learning about the letters B (beautiful , buttons) and K (kaboom, kick). We have been practicing simple patterns. We also have been practicing simple addition problems. In science, we are enjoying our changing plants.
At the end of November, we are hoping to go on our first field trip. We are hoping to go to Over The Moon to make a special gift for Christmas.
Office

We will be hosting a parent meeting on Thursday, November 19th at 6:15 at 16300 Delaware. Childcare will be provided. Please sign the attendance sheet in your child’s classroom, letting us know whether you will be in need of care for your child/children. Refreshments will be served. Bring with you any topics you would like discussed. We be will be closed on the 26th and 27th, in observance of Thanksgiving. You will be billed for Thanksgiving Day only.

Lifetouch will once again be taking our school pictures. They will be here on Thursday, November 19 starting at 8:30 am.
