Younger Toddler

Happy New Year to all! Hoping you all had a safe and joyous holiday. Winter has arrived. Reminder to dress for outside daily walks. This month we are going to talk about winter and cold weather. We will make snowman and snowflakes. We also are going to learn about arctic animals. We’ll make polar bears and penguins as an art project. Younger toddlers are doing well on using utensils. We also are learning how to share toys and how to take turns. They love to sing and play instruments their favorite song is ” Hello how are you”

Older Toddler

Hello parents,

The New Year has approached! For the month of January our theme will be winter. We will be talking about animals that are around during the winter season such as penguins and polar bears. We will be making our own penguins and polar bears using cotton balls and glue. We will also be experimenting with real snow! In the classroom we will be reading books about winter such as Clifford and the Snowflake book, which talks about the journey of a snowflake.

Winter is one of my favorite seasons of the year, so we are going to have a great snow filled month! We will also continue to work on counting and practice spelling our names and learning to work on tracing the letters in our names.

Thank you,

Miss Taneshia, Miss Nichole and Miss Shayna.

Preschool

It’s already January and the preschoolers can’t believe another year has passed. We are anxiously awaiting to get to play in the snow. Please be sure that your child has a winter coat, hat, mittens, scarf and boots available everyday so that we can enjoy our time outside. Please be sure that your child has an extra complete set of weather appropriate clothes available in case of accidents.

This month we will renew our focus on letters and numbers, so expect to see homework coming home to help reinforce the concepts we are working on. We will be focusing on the following topics this month: 1. (Jan 4-8) winter wonderland, letter I and number 9. 2. (Jan11-15) Winter Animals, letter J, number 10. 3. (Jan 18-22) Martin Luther King Jr. Day, letter K, number 11. 4. (Jan 25-29) Space, letter L, number 12.

We will be using various materials to explore the letters and numbers every day in the classroom and on our walks. We will have activities related to each topic as well. Please feel free to send in items that pertain to the topic to share with the class.

Please check your child’s folder daily for important information, as well as your child’s art projects. As always, thank you for your continued support and for sharing your children with us.

We will be easing back into our normal routine with a quick look at “Winter”. All of the children are very ready for it to snow.

In the second week, we will start our “Everyone Has Needs” unit. We will meet Mr. C (colossal cab) Ms Y (yodeling yawn) and Ms E (exercise energy). Our unit themes will be everyone needs food, rest, and exercise. We will continue working on letter sounds , and patterning. We will be changing our sensory bin to go with a winter theme and dramatic play will turn into a pet store. Currently we are having a birthday party theme in dramatic play and we have our New Year’s theme. The kids loved trying to figure what was in filled balloons. We used beans, beads, legos, sand, etc. It was hands on fun!!!
